“He’ll give you Power”
(John 1:12)
A Message by Rev Dr Vincent Leoh on 28 December 2008

2008 – Year of Empowerment

I. POWER TO HIS PEOPLE

RECOGNIZE YOUR POSITION IN CHRIST

What Do You Get When You Receive Christ? (John 1:12-13) “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed (trust in) in his name, he gave the right (and the power) to become (what they were not before) children of God.”
You Get A New Nature. When you receive Christ, you get a new nature Ezekiel 36:26. We can’t change our natures or give ourselves new hearts with new desires. Only God has that power. God not only forgives us, and forgets our sins but He also gives us a new nature. A nature that gives us the desire to serve and obey Him.

We are accepted by Him!
We become children of God!
We are “Born Again!” Read Full Entry

Series: Following Jesus (6)

COMMAND
LOVE ONE ANOTHER
(John 13:34-35; 15:12-17)

A Message by Rev Dr Vincent Leoh on 16 November 2008

“Love” is so overused that it is almost ambiguous. We apply “love’ to all kinds of circumstances or situations in life – whatever, whoever, whenever, wherever, and however we please. But the biblical command to love is different.

I. LOVE IS A DECISION!

1. It’s a Command! (John 15:12, 17)

2. It’s New! (John 15:12) Read Full Entry

Our Friend and Helper, the Holy Spirit

OUR FRIEND AND HELPER, THE HOLY SPIRIT
(John 16:5-15)
A Message by Rev Dr Stanley Lim on 19 October 2008

Introduction: The Lord Jesus had just delivered a discourse to his disciples preparing them to face with the respond that the world would give to them. He reminds them that they will be hated for what they do simply because they do not belong to the world. Because of the fact that they are following Jesus they will be treated negatively and will not be received with welcoming arms.

Jesus was able to reveal many things to the disciples of what is to take place because he was still physically present with them. But he reminded them that the time is coming that he will be returning to the One who has sent him to the world to fulfill the plan of God. But he comforted the disciples with the good news that even though he may be going away, they will not be left alone, helpless. Here, he introduces the person of the Holy Spirit by making reference to him as the Counselor. It was here that Jesus puts forth the work and ministry of the Holy Spirit in the world today. CHARACTER: TO BE LIKE JESUS
(Mark 3:13-19)

A Message by Rev Dr Vincent Leoh on 12 October 2008

Disciples are to be Fashioned BY Christ to BE LIKE Christ. “Follow Me and I will make you (become)…” (Mark 1:17). Following Christ means Change. Jesus taught character transformation. He taught His disciples what to be like, not what to do.

Character Defined – The moral constitution or pattern of behavior found in an individual. Character is who you are when no one is looking.

Next to knowing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, nothing is more important than having a godly
Christ-like character. Read Full Entry

Following Jesus (3) – ‘COMMUNION’

SERIES: FOLLOWING JESUS (3)
COMMUNION: BEING W-I-T-H JESUS
(Mark 3:13-14)
A message by Rev Dr Vincent Leoh on 28 September 2008

Mark 3:14a And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him ( to be his regular companions NLT ) Then He appointed twelve that they might be with Him (NKJV)

A “disciple” is someone who learns by following someone else. The Greek word for “follower” meant two things: It referred to someone who had a growing and deepening RELATIONSHIP to the one they were following. And, it also meant that the follower was committed to the process of a radical TRANSFORMATION because of the influence of the leader on his life.

Leadership 301-The Heart of The Servant

LEADERSHIP 301
The Heart Of The Servant

A message by Rev Dr Stanley Lim on 21 September 2008

Introduction:
The Lord Jesus visited the home of Martha & Mary and was immediately given a warm reception. Here in this incident we are told of the response of the two sisters. Martha, welcomed the Lord, while Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and heard His Word. However, we are further informed that Martha became busy with much serving. In the midst of her busyness, she realized that Mary was not helping her and complained to the Lord about Mary’s passivity. Jesus’ response was one that amazed Martha because He did not reprimand Mary but instead revealed the contents of Martha’s heart & mind and redirected her to the core issue of servanthood. Following Jesus (2) – ‘COMMITMENT’

Posted by admin 18-Sep-2008

COMMITMENT: TOTAL OR NOTHING
(Luke 9:57-62)
A Message by Rev Dr Vincent Leoh on 14 September 2008

“True discipleship is an all out commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.” – Gordon McDonald.

The word “COMMIT” means: to bind or involve oneself, pledge, promise, etc.

Commitment is the key to discovering the blessings of God.

Jesus is on a great search for people who will make an unswerving commitment to follow Him.

I. INCOMPLETE COMMITMENT PRODUCES INCONSEQUENTIAL CHANGES
1. The Problem with Mere Involvement / Impulsive Commitments (Luke 9:57-58).
2. The Problem of Misplaced Priorities / Inadequate Commitments (9:59-60).

3. The Problem of Misdirected Focus / Insincere Commitments (9:61,62).

II. TOTAL COMMITMENT PRODUCES TOTAL RESULTS (9:62)
“No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
To be a disciple of Jesus you must be committed to him above everything else

1. Results are usually in proportion to Commitment
Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality.

2. The Power of a Committed Life (Rom. 12:1-2)
24/7 Commitment/ Complete Commitment: Making a Difference James 1:8

As followers of Jesus Christ, He is the only reason for living.

There’s a cost involved with real commitment. It takes a decision, dedication, and dependence. But the question we need ask ourselves is not “Am I able to follow Jesus completely?” But rather “Am I willing to follow Jesus completely?”

CONCLUSION
It is absolutely impossible to live a Christian life without having a complete commitment to following Christ. Commitment is the Key. The moment YOU definitely commit yourself, then God moves also, and a whole stream of events erupt. All manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings, persons and material assistance which come your way begin to flow towards you – the moment you make a commitment.
