THE HEART OF COMMUNICATON: THE 5 LOVE LANGUAGES (PSL)

Posted by larry 08-Jun-2002

[ 1 John 4:7-12 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Stanley Lim on 8 & 9 June 2002

Introduction:

The basic need of every human being is the need of love. How this need is expressed depends on how well it is communicated in a mode that is understood by the individual. A relationship either thrives or stagnates on the different levels of communication that exist. We define different degrees of relationships by denoting the extent of intimacy in that relationship.

Hence, it is not strange for a person to have friends that he/she would consider as “close friends” while others would be termed “ordinary friends”. How well we are connected to one another depends on our communication. Communication is the ability to share in such a way that the other person can understand and accept what is being said.

HONORING OUR PARENTS (PSL)

Posted by larry 11-May-2002

[ Exodus 20:12 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Stanley Lim on 11 & 12 May 2002

INTRODUCTION:
We all know that the 10 commandments are important for every man and woman alive because they are the values that God wants us to have in our core belief system. Yet most people, including Christians, have no idea what they are and what they actually mean.

The 10 commandments contain both spiritual and practical teachings about loving God wholeheartedly and loving people fervently. It is the Lord in teaching us to love people fervently that the 5th. Commandment is recorded.

The 5th Commandment states here that we show love to others by first loving our parents. As read in our text, we will be blessed if we honor our father and mother. Many Christians misunderstand the teachings here by saying that God will guarantee that we live long lives. But what is the use if we live long lives and yet very much plagued by sicknesses and accidents. I believe that the long life that is mentioned here denotes that it has been a fruitful, productive, blessed and satisfying life. One that is filled with the peace of God. Pro. 3:1,2- “My son, do not forget my law. But let your heart keep my commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you.”

THE SACRIFICE OF GIVING

Posted by larry 27-Apr-2002

[ 2 Samuel 24:18-25 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Vincent Leoh on 27 & 28 April 2002

Did you know Jesus talked about money more than he talked about heaven? In Matthew, Mark, and Luke: 1 out of every 6 verses deals with money. Of the 29 parables Christ told, 16 deal with a person and his money. Why did Jesus talk about Money so much? We understand things in terms of dollars.

SACRIFICE

Sacrifice means: to give up something of value for something else, the act of offering to God something precious.
The measure of a sacrifice is: “How much is left over after we give?”

In the Old Testament, worship always requires a sacrifice. To the OT believer, it was inconceivable to go to worship God without bringing something precious as a gift to God.
“I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord that which costs me nothing.” II Sam. 24:24.

[ Hebrews 6:16-19 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Stanley Lim on 20 & 21 April 2002

“When people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. So God has given us both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.

Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can take new courage, for we can hold on to his promise with confidence. This confidence is like a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain of heaven into God’s inner sanctuary.”

INTRODUCTION:
According to popular legend, cats are supposed to have 9 lives. It’s a belief tied to the assumed ability of cats to escape from close encounters with death, to land on their feet, and to keep on living even when humans might have expected them to die.

God is too small.” (1 Kings 8:27; Amos 5:1-5)

- God chose to make His “dwelling” among men.
( 1 Kings 8:17, 18; 9:3; 1 Chron.28:11-13)

It’s the Divine Presence “God is really among you!”
( 1 Cor.14:24, 25 )

THE THIRD DAY

Posted by larry 31-Mar-2002

[ 1 Cor.15:4 ; Luke 24:13-49 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Vincent Leoh on Easter Sunday, 31 March 2002

” that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures”
(1 Cor 15:4)

Day 1: Friday: The Cross: “There They Crucified Him” – John 19:18
Day 2: Saturday: The Grave: “There They Laid Him” – John 19:42
Day 3: Sunday: The Empty Tomb: “I Have Seen the Lord!” – John 20:18

“… it is the third day…” (Luke 24:21)
They knew something exciting was supposed to take place. Something new. Something powerful. They knew that something was going to happen on the third day. But they didn’t know what. They only remembered Jesus talked about “the Third Day” (Matt 16:21; 17:23; 20:19; 27:64; Luke 9:22; 13:32; 18:33; 24:7; 24:21; 24:46).

IF ONLY YOU KNEW…

[ Luke 19: 28 - 44 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Vincent Leoh on 23 & 24 March 2002

What would you do if you knew you only had one week to live?
How would you spend the time that you had left to you?

The trivial is bypassed. The unnecessary is overlooked. That which is vital remains. The critical is centrifuged from the casual. Deliberate deeds are done. Each step calculated. Every act premeditated. Every moment cherished.

IF ONLY YOU KNEW …
( Luke 19:28-44 )

Jesus chose to ride on a donkey in this parade.
This is not only to teach us about the nature of His kingdom but about His own nature.
