IS YOUR LIFE WELL LIVED? (PSL)

Posted by larry 28-Sep-2002

[ Colossians 3: 1-3 & 17 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Stanley Lim on 28 & 29 September 2002

INTRODUCTION
ALFRED NOBEL, following the death of his brother, turned to the obituary section of the morning paper and made a startling discovery. An editor had made a mistake, assumed that Alfred-and not his brother-had died,
and printed an obituary describing Alfred as the inventor of dynamite.

Nobel realized that if he had died that day, he would have left a legacy associated with death and destruction. Unlike his brother, Alfred Nobel still had time to change. Encouraged by his friends and drawing on some of his considerable wealth, he established a prize to honor those who would make the world a better place. Today, few people know (or care) who invented dynamite, but everybody has heard of the Nobel peace prize, named after a man who looked ahead, beyond his scientific accomplishments, and into the future.

Posted by larry 31-Aug-2002

[ 1 John 1:3b ; 2:20 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Vincent Leoh on 31 August & 1 September 2002

I. WHAT IS THE PRESENCE AND THE ANOINTING?

1. The Presence
“… our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ? (1 John 1:3b)
“… abide in the Son and in the Father? (:24)
Exo. 33:18ff The glory of God is the person and presence of God – it is His personality, His attributes. Acts 4:13 – The key to the presence is to be with Jesus – over and over and over, constantly, not just occasionally, through prayer. Go beyond the Presence to the Anointing!

2. The Anointing
“But you have an anointing from the Holy One…” (1 John 2:20)
The anointing is the power, the power to serve God, the power to battle demons and diseases.

PRAYER, THE HOPE OF THE WORLD (PSL)

Posted by larry 24-Aug-2002

A Message by Rev. Dr. Stanley Lim on 24 & 25 August 2002

INTRODUCTION: The last decade of the 20th. century has seen significant developments in prayer movement. An ever-widening circle of Churches and Christian leaders is recognizing spiritual warfare as a vital component of effective efforts to reach the lost. Dr. Edwin Orr, a church historian said, “Whenever God is ready to do something new with His people, He always set them to praying.” A report from “Christianity Today” quoted that churches in the US are undergoing a phenomena called spiritual renewal, whereby Christians are rededicating themselves back to the Lord in prayer. In the sense that in a renewal there is the recovery of prayer and the practice of fasting, while revivals are mighty visitations of God that draw sinners to God.

Church, prayer precedes revival. Church statistician, David Barrett, reports that approximately 170 million Christians are committed to pray everyday for revival and evangelism; some 20 million claim that their involvement in prayer is their calling in the body of Christ.

THE NECESSITY & EFFECT OF UNION (PSL)

Posted by larry 17-Aug-2002

[ Matthew 18 : 18 - 20 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Stanley Lim on 17 & 18 August 2002

INTRODUCTION : The design of our Lord, in this text, was to teach the importance and influence of union in prayer and its effort to promote a revival. He states the strongest possible case by taking the number “two” as the least number between whom there can be an agreement. It is the fact of their agreement upon which he lays the stress.

In order to come within this promise, we are to be agreed in prayer!

1. We should agree in our desire for the object
It is necessary to have desires for the object, and to be agreed in those desires. Very often individuals pray in words for the same thing, when they are by no means agreed in desiring that thing.

SOUL CARE: NURTURING YOUR INNER WORLD (PSL)

Posted by larry 27-Jul-2002

[ Matthew 10: 27 - 31 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Stanley Lim on 27 & 28 July 2002

Introduction:
Regardless of our age, occupation or lifestyle, we all have private thoughts that fill our minds, stir our emotions, motivate our actions, shape our self-concepts, influence our relationships and have an impact on the way we live. These private thoughts all point to a private world within. It is a world that can be cultivated and nourished, but is more often neglected, ignored and allowed to be overgrown with harmful values, distorted perspectives, self-deceptive ideas, etc.

Living in this world, it seems that most of us have inner lives that are dominated by at least 4 perspectives.

A. Driven
Some people are driven. They tear thro’ life, feeling pushed to get things done, determined to make the best use of every minute, controlled by the tyranny of the urgent. They live busy lives and push their bodies so far before they collapse. To make things worse, their friends applaud their energy, admire their creativity and reinforce their lifestyles.

WHO ARE THE REAL CHRISTIANS?

Posted by larry 20-Jul-2002

[ 1 John 2:1-11 ]
A Message by Rev. Dr. Vincent Leoh on 20 & 21 July 2002

How do we know that we know?
By this we know that we know… (1 John 2:3)
This is how we know… ? ( 3:19, 24; 5:2)

I. THOSE WHO KNOW GOD MUST KEEP HIS WORD
By this we know that we “KNOW” Him (1 John 2:3-5)
“He who says I know Him…” (2:4)

“Keep” – to carefully guard, to hold fast. Attitude of obedience
“we are now keeping” (:5) – doing something over and over again. Daily, detailed and disciplined obedience

“Commandments” (:3) “Word” (:5) (cf. John 14:15, 23) There is a difference.
