Reposition yourself above your limitations
(Luke 19:1-10)
A Message by Rev Dr Vincent Leoh on 1 November 2009
The town is Jericho. Jesus was just PASSING THROUGH, on his final journey to Jerusalem.
Zacchaeus was a very rich man. He was searching for something more in life. … to see Jesus and to know who he is. He was a CHIEF tax collector. And he’s a JEWISH tax collector!
I. YOUR CONDITION IS THE RESULT OF YOUR POSITION.
1. Zacchaeus was “of little stature.” He was short!
2. Zacchaeus couldn’t see Jesus because of the crowd. People can be nasty.
II. POSITIONING YOURSELF FOR A MIRACLE/CHANGE: THE SYCAMORE TREE:
1. Right position overcomes opposition.
2. Change your condition by changing your position.
3. Every one of us has a Sycamore Tree to climb if we really want to see who Jesus is.
4. It is not enough to change your position, you must change it to a Position of Faith..
III. THE CHANGE: REPOSITIONED TO THRIVE
Because of his willingness to reposition himself, Zaccheus experienced a radical life transformation. The miracle of this story is that Zacchaeus DOES change!
1. Positioned in the Rightful Place. He acknowledges Jesus for who He is. He calls Jesus “LORD” (:8), making Jesus the chief of his life.
2. Positioned with the Right Attitude. a) Zacchaeus becomes a giver rather than a taker. “Here and now I give half my possessions to the poor!” (:8). b) He has a desire to make things right. “..if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” (:8)
3. Feeling Small, But Walking Tall (vv. 7-10)
4. Thriving: Bloom where you are planted
