POSITIONING FOR HOUSEHOLD BLESSINGS

(2 Sam. 6:1-23; 1 Chron. 13-16)

SEEK GOD’S BLESSINGS GOD’S WAY!

PROGRESSION OF “BLESSING“ IN 2 SAMUEL 6
:11 – “And the LORD blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.”
:18 – “And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.”
:20a – “Then David returned to bless his household.” (cf 1 Chron. 16:43).

I. HOUSING THE BLESSINGS OF GOD (HOUSEHOLD OF OBED-EDOM)
(2 Sam 6:11)

1. WELCOME HIS PRESENCE INTO YOUR HOUSEHOLD:
THE ARK OF THE COVENANT

When God is at home in our home!

2. HONORING GOD: THE TABLETS, BOWL AND ROD
Contents of Faith in the Ark:

THE TABLETS: The two stone tablets of the law given to Moses – God’s Word in our homes

THE BOWL: A jar of manna from Israel’s wilderness wanderings – God’s Provision in our homes

THE ROD: Aarons budding staff – God-ordained Leadership in our homes

3. SERVING GOD IN GOD’S HOUSE (1 Chron. 15:21, 24)

II. DANCING IN THE BLESSINGS OF GOD (HOUSEHOLD OF DAVID)

Bringing the Presence of God Back into our Household

1. STAY CLOSE TO AND REVERE THE PRESENCE OF GOD
“I was before the Lord…” (2 Sam 6:21)

Don’t let Familiarity hinder your sense of awe and reverence

2. REMEMBER TO COUNT THE BLESSINGS
“I was before the Lord, who chose me in place of your father and all his household, to
appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the LORD…“ (2 Sam. 6:21)

Give thanks for what you have.
Give thanks for where you are.

3. RESIST THE TEMPTATION OF THE FLESH

“I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in my own eyes“
(2 Sam. 6:22)
